That's because it is! The world the comic takes place in is an alt version of Earth. What do I mean by this? Basically:
Humans and animals both populate this Earth. It sounds normal at first but it gets more detailed once you dig deeper
When an animal turns 12-13, they go through a process called "budding" where they become anthropomorphic. The process doesn't stop until they're 18. Before then, the only anthro trait they have is the abilty to talk
However, not every animal goes through this process. Those animals are:
Mammals: Cows, pigs
Birds: Chickens
Fish: All of them
Bugs/Crustaceans: All of them
Amphibians: None of them
Reptiles: None of them
Stillwater, IN is the town the comic takes place in. It's a medium-sized town known for myths and strange happenings and has become somewhat of a tourist attraction. 2 of it's most popular are:
Mothman's Daughter-There's been sightings of a caterpillar-like creature around the more wooded areas around the town. No one has ever gotten a good look at her but she's specualted to have purple skin, large "clawed" hands and feet, and a "tail" adored with more legs. However, her existance has been debated and disputed several times as it just being a prank from a teenager. There is a photo of her out there so you can look at it and decide for yourself
Julius's Aerials-To be fair, this doesn't just happen in Stillwater only but throughout Northren IN. They're swirls of color in the night sky. Think of it as their version of the Northren Lights. It's unknown as to why they appear and they only appear in the 2nd to last week of July. Focusing in on Stillwater, Julius's Aerials is a very special event and is treated like a fair with vendors over by Renard Lake (where people commonly go to watch)
Besides this, it's a slightly small town, mostly populated by local businesses and forest. It's also pretty quiet, ironically enough
